Hands on experiences for schools!
Come and see what the Roman’s left behind!
Perfect for schools, we have had a great time welcoming over 1000 pupils from Primary and Secondary Schools to come and see Carlisle’s Roman Bathhouse.
Scroll down to fill in the schools enquiry form below, and one of the team will be in touch to arrange your booking.
We have provided sessions for both primary and secondary aged pupils.
We will adapt to the needs of every group, but as a general guideline to provide the best experience we normally accommodate one class at a time. A typical Primary school visit takes around an hour including;
5 to 10 minutes – Arrive, introductions and site welcome.
Introduction to the Romans more broadly and who they were. Divide into two groups to swap after each session.
20 minutes – Tour of the site, to see archaeology in action and what is being discovered.
20 minutes – Object handling of newly discovered site finds and replica Roman objects.
5 to 10 minutes - Review learning. Roman soldier drill, class photo and wrap up.
The Excavation will be between the 11th of May and the 15th of June 2024 for visiting.
“Just wanted to say thank you so much for a fantastic visit! The children marched back to school and couldn’t stop talking about how much they enjoyed it.
The activities were great, and we even saw a newly discovered pot. Everyone was so nice and helpful…Thank you for organising what I am sure will be a very memorable visit for everyone.”
